David Deen: Story FragmentsI've drawn for as long as I can remember, and it has always been the easiest way for me to express myself. My first serious "coloring book" was a copy of the AD&D Monster Manual. Coloring the pictures in that manual was far more interesting than playing the game ever was. In the long run, my favorite medium ended up being colored pencil, though some day in the future may see a partial return to painting in oils. There has always been a fascination in my life with literature and narrative, especially literature influenced by fantasy or mythology. It only feels natural, then to most enjoy portraying fantastic characters and settings in a narrative manner, giving a lot of attention to mood and atmosphere in an attempt to create a vignette interesting enough to imply a story of their own. I don't, however, attempt to create traditional epic fantasy paintings or to adhere to any set topic. Jumping from still lifes to landscapes, from ink drawings to oil painting, from silly to horrific, I do whatever inspires me at the time . View David's web page to see more of his artwork.
